🌱week 7 - The Challenges to Sustainable Development

📖 In Week 7 of SCSH1201, we explored the real-world challenges to achieving sustainable development and how interconnected everything truly is.

It really made me reflect: 🧠🌍
Sustainability isn't just about "saving the planet." It's about creating fair, just, and balanced systems for people, economies, and environments all at once.

Our discussions opened my eyes to how inequality, bad governance, and unsustainable practices are the real barriers to a better future.

🌟 Key Challenges to Sustainable Development

Some key points that really stood out to me:

  • Inequality everywhere: Access to education 🎓, healthcare 🏥, food 🍽️, and clean water 🚰 is still out of reach for millions.

  • The shocking cow story: A cow in Europe 🐄 gets almost as much subsidy as what a person in Africa earns per day. It's a brutal reminder of global injustice. 💔

  • Unsustainability feeds on inequality: Societal unfairness (like who gets good education or clean water) makes sustainability impossible. 🚫🌱

  • Islamic principles support sustainability: Teachings like zakat 💸, khalifah 🌍, and prohibiting waste 🚫♻️ align perfectly with the goals of fairness and environmental care.

  • Everything is connected: Climate change 🌡️, public health 🏥, migration 🌍, poverty 🤲 they’re all part of the same big picture.

📚 Personal Takeaways

I loved realizing that sustainable development isn't just about "future generations" it’s about urgent action right now. ⏳
Small steps matter, big systems matter, and most importantly: fairness matters. 🤝🌱

💬 "If not us, then who? If not now, then when?"
